These five publicity photos were reproduced from Carter’s original 8 x 10 inch negatives in 1995 for the deluxe edition of my Carter the Great biography.

This was the first Cheating the Gallows illusion built by Floyd Thayer. Carter stands at the bottom of the stairs while his brother Leo is about to put the noose around the neck of Evelyn Maxwell.
